As a result, N Batley is also better able to manage the seasonal peaks in demand for tartan and target new opportunities within its growing overseas clientele.

A FAMILY-RUN textile firm - which lists luxury brands Gucci and Moncler among its customers - has secured funding to help meet growing international demand for its products.
Longwood-based N Batley has a commission weaving division which manufactures all types of quality woven materials - from industrial fabrics to suits.
The company, formed in the 1950s and run by the Wellings family, also specialises in tartan, check and worsted fabrics.
Now it has secured funding from Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance to help buy the extra raw materials it needs to help meet rising demand for its products in the luxury brands market - without stretching its cashflow.

The Moncler clothing label has a rich history having first been created in 1952 near Grenoble in France. The founder of the brand was a Frenchman named Rene Ramillon, and the name came from an abbreviation of the mountain village named Monastier de Clermont which is close to Grenoble.
The company started out producing down jackets, initially using the lining from sleeping bags, and were designed to keep workers and those undertaking expeditions in the Alps. By 1968 they had made several technological advances in the product and its linings and by 1968, Moncler had been chosen to be the official manufacturer and supplier to the French winter Olympics team. By 1972 and the next winter Olympics the French skiing team loved the product but demanded a more lightweight product that would give them more flexibility when practising, and thus more lightweight jackets were created that are still available today.
